Frequently asked questions
- Where can I get SamtheCat Mail?
- It is coming to the Apple App Store for iPhone. On the home page, use “Tell me when it’s on the App Store,” or ask via the contact form.
- Does SamtheCat Mail store my email on your servers?
- No. Mail syncs directly between your iPhone and Google, Microsoft, or Apple. We do not operate an inbox server that holds your password or reads mail for push in this release.
- What does Protect do?
- It hides a message on this iPhone until you unlock it with Face ID or your iPhone passcode. Recipients, webmail, and other mail clients still see their normal copies.
- What’s the difference between passcode and App PIN?
- Protect, ending Lend Mode, and turning off Travel Mode use Face ID or your iPhone passcode (Apple’s system prompt). App Lock uses a separate App PIN you set in SamtheCat Mail, with optional Face ID — so the mail app can stay locked even after someone unlocks your phone.
- Why am I not getting instant notifications?
- Alerts are shown after the app checks for new mail—when you open the app or when iOS runs background refresh. That is different from clients that keep your login on their servers for second-by-second push.
- Can I use SamtheCat Mail for work or corporate email?
-
Often yes on an iPhone your employer allows, if your IT team permits third-party mail apps and you follow company policy—but SamtheCat Mail is not an enterprise-grade product like managed Outlook with Intune, central DLP, legal hold, or S/MIME enforcement.
It is built for professionals who want strict on-device controls: Corporate Strict Mode (on by default), per-message Protect, Travel and Lend modes, a local security audit log when settings are loosened, tracker stripping, and sync straight to Google or Microsoft without a SamtheCat inbox server.
We’re hardening toward deeper corporate needs over time; we don’t claim fleet IT or compliance certification today. Some employers block work Outlook in third-party apps until IT allows them or the developer completes Microsoft publisher verification—we have not completed that step yet. Personal Microsoft accounts (Hotmail, Outlook.com, Live) use the same sign-in button and are not subject to that corporate gate. Protect conceals mail on this phone—it does not encrypt mail for recipients or change what your organization stores in Exchange or Gmail.
- How do I connect Gmail, Outlook, or iCloud?
- In the app: Settings → Accounts → Add Account, then sign in with the provider’s secure sign-in (OAuth for Gmail and Outlook; app-specific password for iCloud).
- How do I delete my data from the app?
- Settings → Accounts → remove each account from this iPhone. That clears local mail and stored tokens. For Gmail, the app also asks Google to revoke access. You can revoke Google access yourself at Google Account permissions. This does not delete your Gmail, Outlook, or iCloud account.
- How does SamtheCat Mail use Google user data?
- Only as a mail client on this iPhone: sync, send, archive, and related features you turn on (Auto-Reply, Mail Rules, Calendar). SamtheCat Mail’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
- How do I restore a Full Access purchase?
- Open the unlock sheet in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple ID you used to buy Full Access.
Reporting a bug
From the app: Settings → send a bug report (includes diagnostic metadata, not message bodies). Or use the contact form with steps to reproduce.
